Tropfest Roughcut returns to Sydney in July

TROPFEST ROUGHCUT R2

In the lead up to this year’s Tropfest, Tropfest Australia is holding the fourth annual Tropfest Roughcut event on July 26th in Sydney. The engaging and interactive film industry event will include networking sessions, panel discussions, and conversations with industry greats, such as actor John Jarratt (Wolf Creek) and comedian Dan Ilic. The full day event is set to be ‘an incredible forum of conversation about creativity in the film and TV industry‘.

Also in attendance will be world renowned Australian motion picture stills photographer Jasin Boland (Skyfall, The Matrix), who will share his incredible insight into the importance and challenges of stills photography in the film industry. Facebook AU will also be running a session on social media marketing, and film makers will be able to engage directly with representatives to find out the best ways to promote themselves and their films.

TV and radio personality March Fennell (The Feed, That Movie Guy) will host the event, and anyone who has ever come across Fennell knows that he’s the perfect man for the job. His humorous look at the world of film has reached audiences all around the country, including 1.9 million listeners each week on Triple J.

Tickets are only $30 and will sell out fast so get in quick if you’re keen to attend this awesome event.

Entries for Tropfest officially open on August 14th and will close on October 2nd. This year’s Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) is “MIRROR”. It is up to each film maker to decide how they will incorporate the TSI into their film, which can run for a maximum of seven minutes. The winner will be announced live on Festival Night, and will receive a phenomenal prize pack, including a new Toyota, $10,000 cash, a trip to LA to attend meetings with film executives, and a Nikon D800. Younger directors can enter their films into Trop Jr, and their TSI is “FLY”.

Tropfest Roughcut will take place at Lend Lease Theatre, Darling Quarter on Saturday July 26, and you can grab your tickets here. You can read more about Tropfest at www.tropfest.com/au.

UPDATE:

We have received word that prolific director Alex Proyas will be attending Tropfest Roughcut as its keynote speaker. Proyas is best known for his films I, Robot, The Crow, Dark City and Knowing. His next film is the highly anticipated epic Gods of Egypt, which is set to star Geoffrey Rush, Gerard Butler and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Tropfest Roughcut was already going to be an incredible event, but the chance to see Proyas speak should convince you to grab tickets if you haven’t already!
