This Week’s DVD Release Picks: Sequels and Spinoffs

Sequels, prequels, adaptations, and spin-offs rule in this week’s Australian DVD and Blu-Ray releases. Here are our three picks for the week…

Mad Max: Fury Road

The fourth film in the Mad Max had a lot of pressure to live up to its predecessors, but director George Miller has delivered a fast-paced thriller that showcases the talent of stars Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy. Excellent supporting performances by Nicholas Hoult (The X-Men franchise, TV’s Skins) and Hugh Keays-Byrne make Mad Max: Fury Road an instant classic and a great addition to the franchise.

Better Call Saul, Season One

A spin-off of revolutionary and intensely popular show Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul is a prequel to Walter and Jesse’s entrance into New Mexico’s drug trade. Starring Bob Odenkirk as slick Albuquerque lawyer Saul Goodman, Better Call Saul has gained critical acclaim and has been accepted and enjoyed by fans of Breaking Bad.

The Walking Dead, Season Five

Zomb-ocalypse drama The Walking Dead is still going strong, and the show’s fifth season didn’t ease up on the shocks, suprises, and zombie killings. Still led by Rick (Andrew Lincoln), the gang of survivors find themselves split up and in danger from both the living and the un-dead. An adaptation of the famous comic book series, The Walking Dead also now has its own spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, and has been renewed for a sixth season, set to air in October.
