The St Kilda Film Festival kicks off an action packed 2017 program

The 34th annual St Kilda Film Festival has officially commenced for another year, and the program is nothing short of exciting.

Incredibly, the festival is Australia’s longest running short film festival ever, and for opening night to take place at the iconic and newly refurbished Palais Theatre, well, what could be more historic than that.

Last night we were treated to a selection of eight short films that will be featured throughout the festival. These talented film makers are highlighting either current global and societal issues, mental health issues or merely just want you to have a laugh. The scope is wide and varied with something for everyone.

The point of the St Kilda Film Festival isn’t to necessarily go and watch the work of people you know; the aim is to support local creatives as this platform can leverage them into future original works.

There is plenty for you to sink your teeth into over the next week and a half, including Australia’s Top 100, SoundKILDA, Tokyo Short Shorts and the Vimeo Showcase just to name a few. For a full program overview, head here.

If after watching a tonne of films you want to see who has been awarded the highest accolades, the Closing Night Awards is definitely for you. This year, the lucky winner of the Best Short Film award will be taking home a cool $10k. Not bad really!

The festival runs until Saturday May 27. For tickets and more info. head here.
