Losing is the new winning in the trailer for Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins

Inspired by a true story – that pretty much actually happened – from the Academy Award losing director of Jojo Rabbit, Taika Waititi, Next Goal Wins tells the story of the American Samoa soccer team, who suffered the worst loss in World Cup history, losing to Australia 31-0 in 2001. With the 2014 World Cup approaching, the team recruits a down on his luck, maverick coach (Michael Fassbender) to help turn their fate around.

Also starring Elisabeth Moss, Will Arnett, Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Beulah Koale, Lehi Falepapalangi, Semu Filipo, Uli Latukefu, Rachel House, Rhys Darby, Russell Uelese Satale, and non-binary actor Kaimana as the first non-binary player to compete in a men’s FIFA World Cup qualifier, Jaiyah Saelua.

Next Goal Wins will kick its way into Australian cinemas from New Year’s Day, 2024.
