Today the iconic St Kilda film festival released its 10 day program. The festival will showcase 100 of Australia’s top short films, music videos, archival screenings, youth programs, an extensive filmmaker development program and highlights from the internationally acclaimed Palm Springs International ShortFest.
This year the festival will feature special events including a screening of the popular ‘The Go!! Show’, which will bring audiences back to the 60s with a restored episode of the classic series. This will take place on Monday 25. May at 7.30pm.
In addition Shock Value: The Movie will screen on Saturday 23 May 9.30pm, and will present audiences with early works from modern slasher zombie filmmakers – a compilation including recently uncovered and previously unseen student films by Dan O’Bannon (Alien and Total Recall), John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York), and many more.
Other highlights from the festival will include:
Imagination Game – Director Alister Grierson Howard’s having a weird day. Old age is catching up with him and being a grandpa’s a tough gig you’re your grandson has a very vivid imagination.
Flat Daddy – starring Kat Stewart – Director Matt Holcomb A life-size photographic cut-out of an Australian military officer intended as a source of comfort for his daughter and wife ends up causing emotional upheaval.
Melma – Director Clayton Jacobson Born in St Kilda to immigrant parents, designer and founder of Metalicus, Melma Hamersfeld now lives again in St Kilda as an artist.
Jack’s Promise – Director Josef Ber Jack struggles to keep his life on track. He is selfish, unreliable and a less than ideal boyfriend to Esther. Everyone can see that he needs
Other special screenings include a showcase of films made in and about East Timor, and Blacks to the Front a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander filmmaking through recent short works.
The St Kilda Film Festival kicks off on Thursday 21 May and will continue with daily screenings and programs until closing night on Saturday 30 May.
