From the new Elton John biopic, to Wizards and an unrecognisable Christian Bale, here are six just released movie trailers you need to watch…
Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald
One more addition to the beloved Harry Potter franchise, Crimes of Grindelwald is the second film in a new series of five, written exclusively for the screen by J. K. Rowling.
In the film, the dark wizard Grindelwald escapes out of captivity and tries to overthrow the peace between wizards and non-magical beings. Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore have to face unexpected dangers to stop the out of control wizard. Alongside Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law and Johnny Depp, the star-studded fantasy epos will be packed with magical creatures and amazing magic tricks.
The Warner Brothers production will hit Australian theatres on 15th November.
Vice
Christian Bale stars in this biographical drama, almost unrecognizable, as Dick Cheney. Vice follows Cheney on his way to becoming Vice President to George W Bush, the most powerful in American History. Method actor Bale has taken on more than a few pounds and gorgeously portrays the ruthless politician with Amy Adams and Steve Carell on his side. And with the touch of the director, who has been awarded an Oscar for his work on The Big Short, Adam Mckay, this movie seems to be a likely Oscar candidate.
In Australia, Vice will be released on 26th December.
Mary Queen of Scots
Another based on a true story flick is brought to us by director Josie Rourke in early 2019. The epic historical drama is based on John Guy’s Biography with the same name and, like the movie Mary Queen of Scots tells the story of the conflict between two queens in the late 16th century. Maria Stuart, queen of France at 16, widowed at 18, returns to Scotland to rightfully reclaim her throne but the country is under the rule of her older Cousin, Elizabeth I. The lives of the two protagonists, portrayed by Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie, become brutally entwined in a ruthless fight for power and love.
Mary Queen of Scots will premiere in Australia on 17th January 2019.
The Mule
Clint Eastwood is back directing and acting lead in his first project since the highly successful Gran Torino in 2008. In the 2018 Mafia drama The Mule, the 88-year old once again shows off his skills behind, and in front of the camera. Based on a true story he is portraying a World War II veteran who glitches into smuggling cocaine for an international drug cartel. With Bradley Cooper as the DAE officer on his trail, Eastwood’s character Earl Stone is stuck facing his mistakes and has to fix them before either the cartel or the police catches up with him.

On The Basis Of Sex
In the next couple of months, it will be raining biographical dramas, as the trailer for another one has been uploaded recently. On the Basis of Sex is the true story of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who commenced her fight against sex-based discrimination in the 1970s. With the help of her supportive husband (Armie Hammer) Ruth (Felicity Jones) brings a groundbreaking case before the Supreme Court of America and stands up for gender equality. The powerful and emotional trailer sets the expectations for this biopic directed by Miriam Leder high.
On the Basis of Sex will be in Australian cinemas on 7th February 2019.
Rocketman
Rocketman is the uncensored story of the English composer, singer and pianist Elton John. After having been in the industry for half a century and being one of the world’s best selling artists, it almost feels unappropriated that this rock star’s story hasn’t been made into a movie yet. The musical drama retells making off of the one and only Sir Elton John focussing on his breakthrough years. The trailer looks like we should expect a glittery and fun movie that also has an emotional side. Taron Egerton is starring as the Royal Academy of Music prodigy and calls this film less a biopic than “a fantastical musical” with several characters singing Elton John’s songs expressing the important beats in his life.
