Overwatch adds new game modes and skins to celebrate the Rio 2016 Olympics

Overwatch is celebrating the Summer Olympics with over 100 themed cosmetic items and a new game mode, Lucioball.

In conjunction with the Rio Olympic Games, Blizzard has announced Overwatch’s very first seasonal event, which will offer over 100 new Olympic-themed cosmetic items and a new game mode called Lucioball.

From the start of the event overnight, all of the loot boxes players earn, or purchase will have a Summer Games inspired look. Within these loot boxes will be over 100 new cosmetic items that will commemorate the Rio Olympic games. These items include themed sprays, emotes, victory poses, highlight intros, player icon, and special skins.

Though players will not be able to purchase these items with credits, each seasonal loot box you receive is guaranteed to have at least one cosmetic item from the Summer Games 2016 collection.

Though new cosmetic items are exciting, the biggest addition to the Summer Games 2016 collection is the introduction of the game mode, Lucioball. Lucioball is a 3v3 match where all players control Brazils own, Lucio. Similar to Rocket League, players must shoot a ball into the opposing team’s goal. Seems like a simple concept, but Blizzard has put an Overwatch spin on this game type. Within the arena are jump pads and speed boosting walls, which make traversing the arena easier and stylish. The arena itself amplifies Lucio’s abilities, allowing players to punch, glide, block, and bounce their way to victory. Each game last four minutes, and the team with the highest score wins.

The Summer Games 2016 collection is available right now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and will finish on August 22nd.
