Following the wildly popular Netflix documentary series Wild Wild Country, comes two brand new true crime original documentary series, in Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist, and brand new episodes of the critically acclaimed series The Staircase, which will expand upon the exisiting original ten episodes. The Staircase will premiere its newest episodes at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The Staircase is produced by What’s Up Films, directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade and produced by Matthieu Belghiti and Allyson Luchak, and follows the story of Michael Peterson, a crime novelist accused of murdering his wife Kathleen after she was found dead at the bottom of the staircase in their home. What follows is the 16 year judicial battle that took place in order to prove Michael’s innocence. Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker, De Lestrade was granted access to immediately after Kathleen’s death in 2001, as he aims to capture every moment from the arrest to the verdict, creating an intimate look at the the trials and tribulations of the processes involved. New episodes will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 28 before launching on Netflix later this year.

In 2003, a robbery gone wrong resulted in a horrific public murder that resulted in a bizarre cat-and-mouse game with the FBI. Know as the “pizza bomber heist'”, a middle aged town beauty by the name of Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong is arrested for the crime, as she battles with metal illness. 15 years later, Evil Genius shows us there was much more to the crime than originally thought. Written and directed by Barbara Schroeder and co-directed and executive produced by Trey Borzillieri, Evil Genius launches globally 11 May, 2018.
