Filmmaker, writer and artist, Miranda July will be making her way to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne, presenting two of her films which showcase her creative spirit the world of cinema. Starting February 26 to March 5, ACMI will be screening her most recent feature, The Future (2011) along with her short film, Getting Stronger Everyday (2011).
ACMI’s partnership with the Wheeler Centre has made it possible for July to come to Melbourne for a special, one-night only event titled LOST CHILD! Miranda July. It will be held on Monday March 7 at the Melbourne Town Hall, giving an opportunity for July to discuss her journey as an artist in Portland to her current successes in being an award-winning filmmaker and bestselling author.
The Future is July’s sophomore feature film and it tells a story of a 30-something couple Jason (Hamish Linklater) and Sophie (Miranda July). Their lives are set on an (un)easy path where the couple decide to adopt a wounded cat, Paw Paw (voiced by July). However, when the adoption process is delayed, Jason and Sophie find themselves encountering a reality filled with action, doubt, contemplation and abandonment.
