Mad Max: Fury Road leads the winners list at the 5th AACTA International Awards

Winners of the fifth Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards (AACTA) were announced over the weekend in Los Angeles, held at Avalon Hollywood.

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road scored the big double win once again for Best Film and Best Direction following the local ACCTA awards ceremony in Sydney. While the award for Best Screenplay went to Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer for Spotlight.

This year marks the first time an Australian Film, Mad Max: Fury Road was won at the domestic awards at Sydney and again at the international awards in LA, according to AACTA Chief Executive Damian Trewhella.

Leonardo DiCaprio took home the award for Best Lead Actor for his role in The Revenant. The film Carol was praised with two awards going to Cate Blanchett for Best Lead Actress, and Rooney Mara for Best Supporting Actress. Bridge of Spies actor Mark Rylance was named Best Supporting Actor.
