It’s Official The X-Files Is Back!

There have been rumblings for months about The X-Files and whether the cult hit 90’s TV series would be making a comeback. Well, Fox (the network, not the character) has made it official.

On their website Fox made a bold statement “The next mind-bending chapter is coming!” and stated that six episodes have been confirmed for the short-stack season. Both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have been confirmed to reprise their characters of FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully respectively. With original creator/executive producer Chris Carter to once again be at the helm.

Production on the event will commence in the Northern Hemisphere Summer 2015 period, however all other info is being kept under wraps, probably locked away in an underground bunker in the Pentagon.

It’s been twenty years since the show premiered back in 1993, and over the course of its nine season run and two film releases the show went from breakout sci-fi hit to global phenomenon and has long been regarded one of the most successful drama shows of all time. The show won 16 Emmy Awards, 5 Golden Globe Awards, and it’s writers and crew then went on to work for many more successful programs in its wake – such as Breaking Bad, Homeland and Supernatural.

Fox Television Group Chairmen and CEO’s Dana Walden and Gary Newman said “The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

Aside from Mulder and Scully being confirmed, we’ll have to wait and see if any of the other show favourite characters like A.D. Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) or Special Agent John Doggett (Robert Patrick) get to join in on the action.

In the meantime Duchovny will be appearing in upcoming detective/cop drama series Aquarius, whilst Anderson will be in the third season for British thriller series The Fall.
