Gorgeous Locales and Combat Options Revealed For Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy has been a bit of an enigma since it was first announced. Unveiled late last year, the game looked to be an exciting and refreshing change for the franchise as the initial teaser revealed a deep, gorgeous adventure featuring Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross.

Now, fresh details have emerged, painting a clearer picture of the action of the upcoming game. The game will take place in the southern tip of India, a bright, beautiful and dangerous landscape that harkens back to the pulp feeling of the original game. Naughty Dog’s Creative Director, Shaun Escayg explains that the team wanted to bring back elements of surprise, and a wide, far-reaching world to explore. The Lost Legacy is an entirely new story set around 12 months after the events of Uncharted 4, although fans of the franchise may be disappointed to learn that series lead Nathan Drake won’t be making an appearance in this game. Instead, Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross will set off on adventure in search of The Tusk of Ganesha.

Working as reluctant partners, the pair must work together to obtain the Tusk from a warlord named Asav, but each have their own reasons for wanting the tusk, and little reason to trust each other. The decision was made to revisit these characters as Naughty Dog felt they were less heroic and more complex than Nathan Drake, and the team wanted to explore a different, darker dynamic. Nadine is desperate following the destruction of Shoreline, with Chloe hiring her for her military expertise. Nadine is the rationalist to Chloe’s spontaneity and impulsiveness, making for a balanced and well rounded pairing.

Overall gameplay will be familiar to Uncharted fans, with some refinements and enhancements, while the level design will be more expansive and exploratory, allowing some degree of choice for players. This is a divergence from the main series, as often levels are presented as linear, however, in The Lost Legacy, sprawling level design will lead to a range of traversal challenges, puzzles and shootouts. New hidden treasures will be scattered about the levels, which will include lush jungles, soaring mountains and ancient temples as you traverse the Western Ghats region of southern India.

New weapons are also introduced, including a silenced pistol, and the inclusion of C4, which first made an appearance in the Uncharted 4 multiplayer mode. There are also entirely new combat encounters, including stealth options and more choice in approach. Lockpicking also makes its first appearance in The Lost Legacy, a mechanic that had not previously been explored in the franchise.

From what we see so far, The Lost Legacy looks to be just as brilliant and intriguing as its predecessors, building and expanding on the best parts of Uncharted 4. The game is exclusive to Playstation 4, and will be released as a standalone title later this year.
