Disney CEO Bob Iger calls Star Wars: The Last Jedi “A Perfect Chapter”

At Disney’s recent shareholders meeting, CEO Bob Iger spoke about the prospects of the Star Wars franchise. After relishing the success of The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which made a combined total of 3.1 billion USD at the box office, his attention has turned to Episode VIII The Last Jedi.

After discussion about the momentous difficulty of toppling the success of The Force Awakens, Bob Iger said that Episode VIII is “a perfect chapter” in the Star Wars saga. It appears Rian Johnson and Co. may have discovered how to accomplish the feat. Iger, one of only a few who have seen a cut of the film, also added “I can promise you it’ll be worth the wait”.

On the surface it can appear to be a non-story that a CEO praises their biggest blockbuster of the year. However, Iger is not one for trivial word play, he did not say the film was ‘great’ or ‘better than The Force Awakens‘. He instead called it ‘a perfect chapter’ knowing full well the gravity of the claim will impact amongst fans.

Will Star Wars: The Last Jedi live up to this bold claim?  The answer will come when it launches into theatres December 15th.

Star Wars: Last Jedi is directed by Rian Johnson and stars Dasiy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhem, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern, Benecio Del Toro, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson and Kelly Marie Tran.
