Cine Latino to highlight the best of Latino cinema this August!

For those that like their films with a foreign touch, there will be a new festival opening up this August showcasing the best of Latino cinema titled Cine Latino.

The aim of the festival will celebrate the diversity in Latin American cinema, showcasing the best films from countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Cuba, Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Guatemala and Puerto Rico.

Cine Latino will be screening over 30 films exclusively at Palace Cinemas nationally. Some of the highlighted films include:

Neruda – directed by multi-award winning Chilean director Pablo Larraín (Tony Manero, No, The Club). This film has been described as “a noir-infused reimagining” of Nobel prize-winning poet and politician Pablo Neruda and the struggles he comes across within the Chilean State.

Guarani – A film from Paraguay and Argentina which features veteran actor Emilio Barreto as Atilio who is a proud indigenous Guarani man, living on the riverway, persistent in keeping to the traditional lines despite the ever-changing modernised world. This film takes an unexpected road trip which subtly unravels into a moving story.

Hotel Nueva Isla – a documentary film created by Irene Gutiérrez Torres and Javier Labrador which retells the experiences in Cuba over the last few decades.

The Bribe of Heaven – Officially selected at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival is a black comedy film created by experienced filmmaker Lisandro Duque Naranjo (The Invisible Children). The film focuses on a small yet devout Catholic village in the Colombian Andes during the 1970s. It’s Easter and a family struggle in arranging the burial of a loved one as the new local priest (a standout performance by Germán Jaramillo) refuses to hold a funeral for someone that has committed suicide.

How To Win Enemies – created by rising star director Gabriel Lichtmann (Jews in Space). Described as “a strong offbeat comedy with overtones reminiscent of early Woody Allen.”

Fragments of Love – an erotic drama film created by Fernando Vallejo based on a novel written by Columbian author Héctor Abad Faciolince.
