Box Office Report: He may be small, but Ant-Man goes big at the Box Office

Well technically that’s true; Ant-Man has continued that classic Marvel tradition of clutching the top spot in its opening weekend, earning $5.3 million in Australia and $57 million in the US. Impressive yes, but given the unstoppable nature of the MCU, it doesn’t exactly live up to expectations. The first Avengers movie for instance made $191 million in its opening weekend in America but that film had some familiar faces and a tonne of ground work behind it. Lets see if Marvels smallest hero can have a solid second week after word gets around and positive reviews (like ours!) do the rounds.

Magic Mike XXL has made a break for second spot knocking our two can-do animated flicks down a few pegs. The sequel has earned $2.2 million in its second week and Inside Out and Minions are still raking in over a million each despite the end of school holidays.

Paper Towns, the romantic drama from the producers of tear-jerker The Fault in Our Stars had a great first week, landing at number 3 with $1.8 million.

Let’s not forget to mention that Jurassic World did indeed crack $50 million in Australia last week ($51 to be exact). It’s sitting on $1,514,901,315 worldwide gross at the moment. Yeah, it’s that good.
