This week we have a new #1 as The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel soars to the top of the list with a very healthy $4M opening week. This is no great surprise as the first movie was a sleeper hit and this movie was expected to do just as well.
Fifty Shades of Grey slips to the #2 spot but still managed to take a healthy $2M over the past week. However, it was just slightly more than our seemingly perpetual #3 movie, Kingsman: The Secret Service so I feel the reign of Fifty Shades is over.
It is nice to see the Oscar’s Best Picture Birdman and Best Actress winner Julianne Moore’s Still Alice (check our review here) creep back into the Top 10. Say what you will about the Academy Awards but they still have some clout.

This week Will Smith’s Focus is out and according to many critics, this will remind us why he is a movie star. Our very own Margot Robbie is the female lead so make sure you buy some tickets and support our girl! I feel a new #1 with this one.
Seventh Son, starring Julianne Moore and Jon Snow Kit Harrington is also out this week. I dare not even try to predict how this will fare (secretly, I think I will love it) but with Game of Thrones chatter almost at fever pitch as we await Season 5 of the popular series, this could be enough to carry it into a nice top 5 spot.
The other new big movie release is Vince Vaughn’s Unfinished Business which is Vince Vaughn so it’s a 50/50 bet.
All figures from The Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia and Box Office Mojo.
