Australian Box Office Report: Justice League outperforms Daddy’s Home 2 at the top

It’s been another great week for Justice League as it tops the box office for the second week in a row, making $3.34m this weekend. Since its debut in theatres, the film, which was reasonably unloved by critics, has made $13.37m nationally.  

This meant that this week’s big release, Daddy’s Home 2, debuted in 2nd place. The original film premiered in cinemas in 2015 and made $2.84m in its premiere weekend, and was a surprise hit of the holidays.  The sequel has made $2.31m across the same period.

The 3 films rounding out the top 5 have all performed fairly well in the past few weeks, despite the fact that they’ve each dropped one position on the box office ladder.  Murder On The Orient Express earned $1.64m at no. 3, managing a screen average of $4,829 across the 341 screens it’s available on nationally.

Still flexing its Marvel muscle in cinemas is Thor: Ragnarok, which is now in 4th place this week.  It earned $1.19m at the box office, and, to date, has made $31.3m in total since its release a little over a month ago.

Bad Moms 2 is now at no. 5, having earned $535k this weekend, and has so far made $9.03m in total since its debut in cinemas.

This weekend sees the debut of The Disaster Artist across a few cinemas, ahead of a wide release the week after. Starring bros James and Dave Franco, it’s based on the novel by actor Greg Sestero about his experience working on what is widely known as one of the worst films ever made, The Room, and his fraught friendship with director Tommy Wiseau.
