Australian Box Office Report: Ghostbusters debuts on top despite negative press

Well, the people have spoken. The all female Ghostbusters reboot managed to weather all its bad press and come out on top. The film opened with US$46 million in the states and hit top spot in Australia, earning AU$4.7 million. Not a bad start at all and our own review certainly paints it in a favourable light.

Ghostbusters knocked The Legend of Tarzan to second spot, still earning a cool AU$2.4 million.

Meanwhile, Finding Dory has successfully become the highest grossing animated film of all time, finally beating out Shrek 2.
It still sits at fourth spot in The States so it will only continue to smash that record.

The BFG is still doing solid numbers, sitting at fourth spot with AU$1.9 million with Central Intelligence rounding out the top five, raking in AU$1.6 million.
