In exciting news for fans of Aunty, the ABC has announced the launch of a new current affairs program, Australia Wide. The weekly show will air Saturday nights at 9.30pm AEDT, with an encore performance 10.30am AEDT airing on ABC Sunday mornings.

The show aims to look at things that effect all Australians, from natural disasters and politics, to the things that inspire us in culture and the environment around us. ABC Head of News Content Gaven Morris says “the program will run four or five stories every week, each from a different state or territory. They’ll come from the cities, regional centres, urban fringes and the bush and will traverse a range of topics. The stories may be from your postcode, but they will speak to us all”. Australia Wide will be presented each week by a different presenter from his or her own state, with the first episode coming from Andrew O’Connor in Western Australia. The episode will cover issues such as the ice epidemic plaguing Tasmania and indigenous housing issues in the Northern Territory, showing that no topic will be viewed as taboo or off limits by the program.
