A director and show runner have been hired for the Netflix Lemony Snicket series

Variety is reporting that Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of the Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events book series is moving closer to production. Paramount Pictures, who also ran the ship on the last adaptation – the 2004 film starring Jim Carrey – have hired Mark Hudis (True Blood) as the showrunner and Barry Sonnenfeld to direct.

The book’s creator, Daniel Handler, is an executive producer for the project alongside Hudis and Soddenfeld. Though no further details were provided in regards to a production timeline, but back in November, when the project was first revealed, Netflix promised the series would have “multi-generational appeal”.
