58th TV Week Logie Awards Nominees Announced

Can you believe it’s that time of year again? The time when we recognise and celebrate the efforts of our on-screen talent AKA The Logie Awards.

Yesterday, the full list of nominees were revealed at a lavish party at Crown Casino’s Club 23, with the who’s who of Australian TV in attendance.

Hosting the afternoon was the TODAY Show’s Sylvia Jeffreys and The Project’s Pete Helliar; a dynamic and surprising duo who brought the gags and laughs, making it a very pleasant afternoon.

Adding to this normally quite formal affair, were a few new additions, which went down a treat. For the first time, the whole event was live-streamed; a perfect way for fans to be a part of otherwise an unattainable front-row seat at such an event.

A live acoustic performance from Samantha Jade kicked the afternoon off as she sang her latest single ‘Always’. It is definitely a winning song for the newly cast Home and Away beauty.

This year also marked the addition of three new awards, which were presented live to the star-studded crowd. Joel Jackson picked up the Logie for Most Outstanding Newcomer – Actor, for his epic performance as entertainer Peter Allen in Channel Seven’s Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door.

Melina Vidler won Most Outstanding Newcomer – Actress for her role as Shay Turner in Seven’s hit drama 800 Words.

Rising star Ky Baldwin, who played the younger version of Peter Allen in the telemovie, won the Graham Kennedy Breakthrough Star of Tomorrow Logie.

“It’s crazy. It’s a feeling that I can’t quite explain. It sounds cheesy but it’s true. I’m so proud to be here representing Peter Allen. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to do stuff like this,” Baldwin said.

The biggest announcement of the day was of course, who would be nominated for the prestigious Gold Logie, and can we just say, what a colourful shortlist we have this year. Lee Lin Chin was most definitely the biggest surprise but the room was hyped. It will be very interesting to see what happens next month.

Below is the full list of nominees. Did your favourite get nominated?

Tune into the Nine Network on Sunday May 8 for all the red carpet action and the actual ceremony. We wonder what debaucherous behaviour these celebs will get up to?
