United have introduced a direct nonstop flight between Sydney, Australia and Houston, Texas on a new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, joining Los Angeles and San Francisco to become the airline’s third direct route from Sydney to the U.S.A. The service will serve as competition to Qantas’ direct service to Dallas, Texas and is the fifth US destination that can be accessed directly from the East Coast of Australia (Honolulu being the fifth).
It is hoped the new service will not only increase access for Sydneysiders to the USA’s fourth largest city for the first time, but also to all surrounding cities and Latin American through the Houston’s advanced hub. United has timed the arrival to Houston in order to provide their Australia customers with optimal connections to more than 70 cities in the U.S, Canada and Latin America.
“Australia is one of the most important international markets for United, and we are delighted to offer this exciting new Houston direct service”, said United’ Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales Dave Hilfman. “Australians will also be able to enjoy the benefits of United’s Houston hub, which has recently undergone extensive renovations to offer even more benefits for travellers”.
The flight has now moved up to become United’s second longest route, operated at 8,596 miles, which places it just behind the airline’s Singapore to Los Angeles nonstop service. It clocks in at around 15 hours and 40 minutes northbound, and 17 hours and 30 minutes southbound.
Flight UA100 departs Sydney Airport at 11:50am daily, arriving on the same day at Houston’s George Bush International Airport at 10:30am. The return flight, UA101, departs Houston at 8pm daily, arriving in Sydney at 6:30am two days later.
