The sixth annual Sydney Craft Beer Week releases 2016 program

The full program for the sixth annual Sydney Craft Beer Week – the city’s largest and most comprehensive celebration of craft beer – has been revealed, promising a huge range of events from Friday 21st to Sunday 20th October. International brewery guests, hair of the dog brekkies, beer matched chocolate desserts, sausage making classes, history lessons, and even axe throwing competitions feature on the lineup, which looks to mirror the steady growth that continues to define scene both nationally and around the world.

100 events will be held across 75 different venues, providing a platform for the country’s best established and up-and-coming brewers, many of whom will showcase their handpicked beers at the Opening Gala Night, which will be held over two days at Giant Dwarf in Redfern, ahead of the individual events.

Key new events to the program include Pint of Origin, a debut concept by The Crafty Pint which will see six pubs across the city turn their taps over to the beers of small breweries across Australia; a free-entry release party with nine new beers at Frankie’s Pizza on October 24th; an in-depth history lesson which tracks beer all the way from Mesopotamia to Scandinavia and beyond, curated as an event titled Beer Through the Ages: A Beer History Experience and embodied in five historical styles of beer poured on the night; and a collaboration between brewing powerhouses which is being described as a beer themed tour of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, with entry only by lottery (register via the official SCBW website).

The program will also bring back some of the most popular events of previous years, like Holes ‘n’ Hopes, a day of brews and burgers over a nine-golf tournament (each hole sunk wins another beer), and the thrilling Meat, Beer, Axe, a collaboration between Willie the Boatman and Maniax Axe with meats from Bovine and Swine.

All events will lead up to the Sydney Craft Beer Awards, which will be celebrating the industry from brewers to behind-the-scenes key players. The award ceremony will be followed by a Hair of the Dog Breakfast at Rock Brewing, with six courses paired with six of the week’s best beers to round out Sydney Craft Beer Week for 2016.
