The Grounds of the City is now open in Sydney CBD

After three years of planning Sydney’s world famous The Grounds of Alexandria have officially opened their CBD spin-off, The Grounds of the City. Located on the ground floor of The Galeries, Grounds of the City looks to bring an old-world spin to what has made The Grounds such an iconic destination for drinking, dining and just general socialising.

From breakfast through to Thursday dinners – and Friday and Saturday late-nights coming soon – the kitchen and Group Exec. Chef Paul McGrath will offer city-slickers the likes of house-made crumpets and cakes, sustainable seafood and premium steak cuts in a space that gets its inspiration from traditional coffeehouse culture. This means that a centrepiece for the venue will be a state-of-the-art Barista’s Bar fitted with espresso and filter technology to sharpen focus on The Grounds house-roasted coffee and Roastery. What’s more: coffee sommeliers will be on-hand to help take guests on tailored experiences while the resident Tea Lady navigates the venue with her custom-made trolley adorned with spreads of tea, cakes and pastries.

Not vintage enough for you? There’s even shoeshiners ready, willing and more than able to tend to those waiting for their coffee hit on the way to work.

Also on offer will be The Grounds own ethically sourced, plantation fresh teas as well as a selection of smoothies, freshly squeezed juices and house-made sodas. The venue is licensed from 10am each day so expect a nice selection of beers, ciders, cocktails and wine as well.

Breakfast essentials include a Steak & Eggs dish with mushrooms, onions, spinach, fried egg and chimichurri, and the signature Bakery Basket, which is The Grounds; continental selection with house made preserves, cultured butter and whipped mascarpone. Lunch brings in the likes of a Pumpkin Tart with buffalo curd, roasted onion and thyme, and a Seafood Platter which features a selection of the day with various condiments and breads

“The intricate design ensures that patrons are taken on a sensory journey, where each visit is a hand-crafted experience”, offered Vince Alafaci and Caroline Choker of the venue’s designers ACME&Co. “We have selected materials, sourced fixtures and collaborated with true crafts-people to ensure that all details and building techniques are of the era”.

Anyone heading into the city from today will no doubt be lured of George Street by the large glowing sign and theatrical window displays, letting everyone know that one of the biggest openings Sydney has seen in years is finally here.
