Taste of Sydney announces first lineup of restaurants heading to Centennial Park in March

Following one of the biggest and most talked about years in Sydney’s dining scene it’s no surprise to see the 2017 edition of Taste of Sydney shape up to be the biggest in the popular food and drink festival’s history. Running From 9th to 12th March in it’s usual spot amongst the leafy Centennial Park, Taste of Sydney and major partner Electrolux will host a massive range of the state’s best restaurants, all which will set up stalls and create exclusive menus for those heading along for either or all sessions.

Looking at the first lineup, which was announced today, the festival seems to be bringing a stronger focus to showcasing precincts, which is to expected since 2016 was defined by new self-contained hospitality scenes. Paddington has a strong showing with the likes of Josh Niland’s hyped contemporary seafood restaurant Saint Peter, as well as Latin American bar-restaurant Tequila Mockingbird and the Guillaume Brahimi stamped Four in Hand by Guillaume. Then you’ve got Barangaroo, and so far the waterside precinct’s Anason should be representing strongly with Somer Sivrioglu’s breezy Turkish cuisine.

Other new names on the block include Harry Stockdale-Powell, the ex-Rockpool chef who will be bringing the flavours of Bouche on Bridge to the four-day event; and Nathan Sasi, co-owner and head chef of Mercado Restaurant, which will no doubt be a big presence throughout Taste.

The recently crowned NSW Restaurant of the Year (Gault Millau), Potts Point favourite Gastro Park will make an appearance for the very first time, joining returning champs like Portēno, Chippendale’s inventive Kensington Street Social, and Surry Hills staple nel, where awarded chef Nelly Robinson will create an exclusive sweet shop version – titled Little nel. – to accompany the beloved restaurant.

Once again Electrolux will be hosting their Chef’s Secrets stage through the festival, offering the public insight from guest chefs who will be sharing their tips on preparing signature dishes, a masterclass that allows participants to enjoy the fruits of their labour at the nearby communal kitchen table. Of course, there will also be the Electrolux Taste Theatre, where host Kate Gibbs will welcome leading chefs one by one as they cook up a feast, and the Lurpak Cookery School which will be the spot for 30-minute masterclasses.

Wine enthusiasts will get to sit in on intimate classes at The Wine Society, while Meat and Livestock Australia will host their Cooks Corner with the Food Network, where meat mastery will be the focus. These plus a whole heap of artisan producers will be on hand to showcase their products in between all of that queuing and eating.

We’ll bring you the full line up once it’s released closer to the date, but for now if you’re planning on snatching up entry tickets you can do so for $25.
