Silvereye to close less than a year after opening (Sydney)

Well, this is a sad surprise. Sam Miller’s Silvereye in Chippendale has announced today that they will be closing, less than a year after opening on the second floor of the refreshed Old Clare Hotel in September of last year. As businessinsider reports, staff were told of the closing this morning and Miller’s plans to return to the UK.

To date, Silvereye has become one of Sydney’s most anticipated new restaurants, focusing on using local, seasonal vegetables in creative and interesting ways. Earlier this week, the restaurant was the winner of “Best New Wine List” at the Wine List of the Year Awards, and Miller’s vege-only degustation has attracted consistently high ratings since opening.

It’s unclear what will become of the gorgeous space once Silvereye vacate the Old Clare and tip the property’s restaurant count down to two (Jason Atherton’s Kensington Street Social and Clayton Wells’ Automata) but hopes are high that another acclaimed chef will take the reigns.

Silvereye have called last service for Saturday 27th August.
