Stepping into Marquis Reforma in Mexico City is what I’d imagine stepping into a palace is like. Staff greeted my friend and I as the taxi dropped us off, and held our suitcases for us while we checked in. The lobby is decorated with marble-effect tiling, gold and black statues, and large plants.
There are a range of facilities in the hotel, including a restaurant and bar, gym, swimming pool, and a spa. The massages, facials, pedicures, and manicures were a little more than we wanted to spend, but no doubt many a weary traveler has gone into the spa and come out feeling rejuvenated.
Our room opened onto a shared balcony that was decorated with plants and fake grass. We weren’t on a high enough level to see anything apart from the buildings across the street, but it was a great spot to sit and relax, and watch the rest of the city go past.
The hotel room had two big, incredibly comfortable beds with lots of pillows. The bathroom had a huge bathtub, free lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, and the best water pressure I’ve ever experienced in a shower – I didn’t want to get out!
The service in the hotel couldn’t be beaten. A staff member brought us a plate of macarons, with a note encouraging us to enjoy our stay on our first night, and some dulce de leche on our second night. We spoke to a concierge, who gave us recommendations for restaurants, made the booking for us, and wrote the address down on a piece of paper. It turned out to be one of the best restaurants I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating at, and we were very grateful for his recommendation.
The hotel is located in the Reforma district, which is a more business-focused area of Mexico City. The trendier and livelier Roma Norte is only a 15-20 minute walk – or 5 minute Uber if you’re feeling lazy – away, so if you don’t mind walking a little and exploring on your way to the main shopping area of Mexico City, then this hotel will be a good choice. If, however, you want to stay somewhere closer to the action, then this may not be the best choice.
I wholeheartedly recommend Marquis Reforma, and thank the lovely, friendly staff for making mine and my friend’s stay so enjoyable and comfortable.
