Qantas to trial single entry passes for both its Domestic and International lounges

Australian Business Traveller reported this week that Australian airline Qantas will introduce the ability to purchase single entry lounge passes for most of its international lounge network. Domestic Qantas Club lounges will cost $49 (or 7,000 Qantas Points), while International Business Class lounges will be $69 (or 9,990 Qantas Points). Their new single-class Premium International lounges in Singapore and Hong Kong will set you back $99 (or 14,500 Qantas Points).

This news will come as welcome news to travellers who don’t travel enough on the Qantas network to be eligible for Qantas Club, however others in higher statuses may be weary of the influx of people on some of the busier lounges. Passengers can rest assured though that Qantas are taking this into account. For now, the trial will be restricted to Bronze and Silver-grade Frequent Flyers who are booked to travel during what they define as “off-peak periods”, such as the middle of the day on weekends, and “when there is capacity in the lounges”, meaning these entry passes will be strictly limited. And their up-market and exclusive First Class lounges won’t be for sale.

If you’re eligible for a pass, Qantas will send you an e-mail invitation three to five days ahead of your flight, with the passes only available online. So you won’t be able to do it at the lounge itself. A spokesman for Qantas told Australian Business Traveller, “During the months ahead we’re going to regularly monitor take-up to determine interest from recipients and importantly, capacity in the lounges to see if we need to make any further tweaks to the offer.”
