Pizza Hut has opened a modern dine-in concept restaurant in Waterloo (Sydney)

Those 90’s all-you-can-eat Pizza Hut sessions you once held as the pinnacle of eating out in Sydney are long gone, shunned by modern society in response to an ever-growing Italian dining scene focusing on high-quality, traditional pizza. Seriously, Sydney is stacked with some of the best pizza in Australia, although there always seems to be a soft spot in our hearts for the more fast-food style perfected by brands like Pizza Hut and Dominos. The former juggernaut pizza brand are hoping to modernise their renowned fast-casual pizza, by opening up a hipster-looking concept restaurant in Waterloo.

The new Pizza Hut restaurant, which has opened today and will be offering free pizza all day, features an exclusive Signature Pizza menu as well as tapas-style entrees and the return of special all-you-can-eat sessions where there will be unlimited pizza by the slice. And it’s all been given a “modern twist”, in a space that looks polished with a large open kitchen, bar area, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, and a digital juke box. Looks like a hipster cafe, functions as a vintage-minded Pizza Hut joint.

“This restaurant combines the things Australia have always loved about Pizza Hut with our vibrant modern casual dining culture”, said Pizza Hut Australia Innovation Director Matt Sawyer. “It will also allow us to respond quickly to our customers’ changing demands. This is the future of Pizza Hut”.

And future it sure is; Pizza Hut will be using this Waterloo restaurant as a hub for ongoing pizza experiments, no doubt opening up the brand to new products which may or may not be completely and ridiculously over-the-top like those unholy Four’n Twenty meat pie-stuffed crust pizzas from 2015 (no more of those please). New ideas will be trialled on an ongoing basis and the successful ones will be rolled out across Australia.

The restaurant also has a dedicated dessert bar with free-flowing real ice cream and frozen custard as well as toppings and other treats. There’s even an express lunch menu being offered, which gives guests a cooked medium pizza and a soft drink, served within 10 minutes, at a very low cost from $8.
