New owners reimagine St Kilda’s Pizza E Birra as a seafood and pizza bar (Melbourne)

New owners have seen a few changes going down at St Kilda favourite Pizza E Birra, with the restaurant now fashioned as Melbourne’s very first pizza and seafood bar.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to take over such an iconic venue and to continue the wonderful tradition of quality wood-fired pizza and beer”, said new co-owner Dario D’Agostino who has partnered up with Joe Codespoti and manager Maurizio Barrottu to bring new life to the long-standing venue, which was reopened to the public late last month.

Dario also leads the charge in the kitchen, which includes expert pizzaiolo Filippo Vivona and chef Mirko Catanzro (who also owns Mirko’s Seafood Ristorante in Sicily). Together they’ve designed a menu that includes seafood antipasti (think Swordfish Carpaccio with sambucca and panama coffee dust) and an extensive pizza menu with toppings like Cauliflower and Potato Cream, Fior Di Latte and Pepitas and an interesting stawberry-pink dessert pizza topped with dehydrated mint and vanilla bean gelato.
