Melbourne’s free dumpling festival returns this weekend

Mark Friday 20th October in your calendar dumpling lovers because following last year’s debut the folks at 206 Bourke Street have decided to bring back their epic free-entry dumpling festival, with some of the city’s best on board. Exclusive pop-ups, a tea cocktail bar, a Brooklyn Brewery beer garden and live entertainment will be set up for a five-hour festival alongside over 50 dumpling varieties on the night, anchored by a dumpling-and-beer pairing experience.

Tim Ho Wan, one of the restaurants that will have a stall at the festival, will also be using the night to exclusively debut their new limited-edition Gold Dust Buns, which are said to be sweet and savory with a slightly crunchy pillowy charcoal bun filled with gooey salted egg custard. They’ll even be handing them out free to the first 500 people that show up – and we do suggest showing up early, as there will be a chance to win free dumplings for a year.

Taking part in the dumpling-and-beer pairing event, promising to be the show-stealer of the night, will be Tim Ho Wan joined by China Red, China Chilli, and Dragon Boat. It’ll be hosted by Good Beer Week co-founder and Brooklyn Brewery ambassador Miro Bellini, so we think it’s safe to expect some pretty good brews to go along with those dumplings.
