Los Angeles Metro’s Expo line to Santa Monica launches this Friday, with free rides for travellers

In what will be huge news for people planning on a visit to LA in the coming months, as well as LA locals – Los Angeles Metro’s Expo Line to Santa Monica will officially open this Friday 20th May, connecting Downtown LA to the beachside destination for the first time by rail. Passengers will be able to ride for free on the first two days of the launch.

A part of the city’s Regional Connector Transit Project, the new light-rail will help commuters dodge the dumps of LA traffic with convenient train trips between Santa Monica and Downtown LA. The line will include additional stations such as Century City, West Los Angeles and Santa Monica, extending the connection for various LA neighbourhoods and destinations across L.A Country.

The official train schedule has also been announced, with trains running every 12 minutes. A passenger departing from 7th Street in Downtown LA at 7:01am can expect to arrive in Downtown Santa Monica at 7:51am, beating the dreaded motorway hauls between the destinations.

The launch of the much anticipated light-rail extension will include celebrations on Saturday, the 21st of May, at various stations including downtown Santa Monica, 17th St/SMC, 26th St/Bergamot, Expo/Bundy, and Palms. Entertainment includes Food stalls, children activities and music.
