Jackalope, QT Melbourne and The Johnson named among Australia’s top hotels for 2017

Long-standing publication Gourmet Traveller have once again scanned Australia’s rich and diverse hospitality scene to find our nation’s top performing hotels across various categories. From established luxury properties to boutique gems, the awards this year represent a very wide range of accommodation options for locals and visitors, acknowledging everywhere from a newly opened favourite in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula to an urban getaway in one of Sydney’s hippest areas.

Said Mornington Peninsula property was the big winner coming out of the ceremony, which was held last week at QT Melbourne, taking home a whopping trifecta of awards including Hotel of the Year, New Hotel of the Year, and Regional Hotel of the Year. That’s none other than the picturesque Jackalope, a $40 million development which brings together a 143-year-old homestead, prize winery, and a modern 46-room hotel. Even more impressive: it only opened earlier this year.

While the vineyard property was certainly the talk of the night, plenty of others were given ample spotlight thanks to their unique offerings. QT Melbourne was named Large Hotel of the Year and also picked up Best Bar for it’s spacious rooftop cocktail terrace, while the coveted Best Club Sandwich went to The Louise in South Australia’s Barossa Valley.

You can check out a list of the major winners below. More details (including the full top 50) are available in the 2017 Gourmet Traveller Australian Hotel Guide, a companion publication available with the current issue of Gourmet Traveller.
