Hartsyard 2.0 announced as Newtown favourite plans some big changes (Sydney)

Hardcore Sydney fans and Newtown locals may have to say goodbye to Hartsyard as they know it but the Newtown institution plans on reopening in early January 2018 with Hartsyard 2.0.

After nearly six years, chef and owner, Gregory Llewellyn, decided it was time to head in a new direction and change things up. This includes a brand new menu, fit-out and drinks list, along with a renewed vigour and approach to hospitality.

“I want to concentrate more on the food that I really like to cook and what, I hope, people will want to eat. I love cooking with vegetables and they will really be on show, alongside seafood and duck.”

Diners can also expect a new charcoal grill that will replace the deep fryer and a smaller menu of about ten dishes that are more contemporary than comfort food. While this might mean saying goodbye to the restaurant’s critically acclaimed fried chicken, Llewellyn teases the idea of a cameo every so often of old favourites.

What won’t change, however, are the big flavours, warmth and service the Hartsyard crew.

“We’ve always said good food, creates good memories. It should be savoured and enjoyed in fine company.”
