Good Food Month: midnight feasts, picnic socials, night noodle markets, and more (Sydney)

It seems like Sydney’s turn to host Good Food Month this October will bring the annual event’s most ambitious program to date, turning it up a notch with some of the city’s top chefs who have come together for exclusive collaborative events highlighting some of the best in town. From midnight feasts to whole hog BBQ’s, kitchen table dinners to a Spring social garden party featuring rounds of croquet and up-scale food, the month will be packed full of explosive food and drink events for Sydneysiders to sink their teeth into.

One of the events we here at the AU review are most excited about is the Midnight Feast at beloved late-night go-to Golden Century ($200pp), an event that kicks off at 12am and features a banquet hosted by a who’s who of Sydney chefs from Peter Gilmore and Neil Perry to Dan Hong and Morgan McGlone, each sharing their kitchen stories and taking the guests behind-the-scenes of where and what chefs eat post-dinner service.

The popular Kitchen Table Dinners (each $200pp) series will return and give a platform to 10 superb chefs over 10 nights, calling on the talents from the likes of Rob Cockerill (Bennelong) and Lennox Hastie (Firedoor) who will each prepare a three-course meal for 40 guests, with all proceeds heading straight to OzHarvest.

Other events include the Young Chefs Lunch ($190pp) which will showcase rising chefs – with a focus on women this year – in a special long lunch held at Chippendale fav Automata; a special Spring Social Garden Party ($95pp) with a pop-up from Matt Moran’s famous Chiswick along with Three Blue Ducks and desserts by kings Alistair Wise and Andy Bowdy to be enjoyed between game of croquet and glasses of Pimm’s while SmoothFM breaks out stripped-back golden oldies for the crispy soundtrack; and, of course, the epic Night Noodle Markets, with all the favourites plus some newcomers including House of Crabs and Queenies.

There are over 185 events included in the huge program so make sure you get across it all on the revamped Good Food Month website.
