Flight Centre are selling “mystery holidays”, bringing spontaneity and excitement back to domestic travel

When we talk about spontaneous travel, we’re usually referring to sojourns taking place in far-flung destinations – falling asleep in Berlin and waking up in Amsterdam; booking a literal-last-minute flight to Osaka after reading about some super specific yakisoba served at a hidden hole-in-the-wall in Dotonburi…that kind of thing.

What we’re not often referring to is domestic travel, but obviously 2020 has done its thing, and the way we think about the best kind of travel has changed, at least for now.

Enter Flight Centre, springing back after months of uncertainty with a playful concept bringing a bit of that mystery and excitement back into travel. As we head into 2021, the ubiquitous travel retailer is selling two and three night “mystery domestic holiday” packages, where the exact destination isn’t revealed to travellers until just a few days before departure (anywhere from one to four). Travel enthusiasts who thrive on last minute plans are going to be jumping all over this one.

And just about everywhere in Australia is on the roulette wheel. Mystery Holidays depart from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Cairns, to destinations including the Gold Coast, Airlie Beach, Cairns, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart, Darwin and more.

All Mystery Holidays are inclusive of return airfares and min. 4-star accommodation. What’s better is that pricing is as low as $399pp for two nights, and $469 for three nights (ex Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane); $539pp for two nights and $599pp for three nights (ex Adelaide, Perth and Cairns).

Given the spontaneity, think of them like travel IOUs if you’re booking for someone else this Christmas. They can be purchased from now to 24th December as an open-dated voucher, with travellers to advise dates at least 30 days prior to departure, and travel to be booked before 30th April 2021.

The travel period for Mystery Holidays is from 1 February 2021 to 30 November 2021, with blackout periods applying across school holidays and special events.
