
With Australian NBN plans now scaling up to 2 Gbps and New Zealand homes already leveraging ultra-fast UFB Hyperfibre speeds of up to 8 Gbps, networking giant D-Link has unveiled its latest hardware solution designed to remove household bandwidth chokepoints: the DPN-BE7212GR BE7200 10G Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router.
The router aims to deliver ultra-high-speed connectivity both in and out; the new hardware features both a dedicated 10 Gigabit WAN port and a 10 Gigabit LAN port, ensuring home networks can actually utilise the full capacity of modern gigabit fibre connections.
Eliminating the Shelf Bottleneck
For years, the primary barrier to faster internet speeds was the service line coming into the property. However, with recent infrastructure upgrades across Australia and New Zealand, the current hardware available has struggled to keep up with this massive connection upgrade.
“For years, the broadband connection was the bottleneck in most homes,” said Graeme Reardon, Managing Director of D-Link A/NZ. “With NBN now scaling to 2 Gbps and NZ homes already past that on Hyperfibre, the bottleneck has moved to the router on the shelf. The DPN-BE7212GR is built to remove it: 10 Gigabit in, 10 Gigabit out and Wi-Fi 7 that grows with the home, room by room.”
Heavyweight Hardware & Expanding Mesh Coverage
Beyond its high-speed WAN capabilities, the DPN-BE7212GR also helps with internal network demands. The inclusion of a dedicated 10G LAN port allows for local setups, such as Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives, media servers, and high-performance gaming rigs to easily transfer data across the local network at maximum speeds.
Under the hood, the router is driven by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 512MB of DDR4 RAM, and nine 3 dBi antennas. Rounding out the physical layout are four standard Gigabit LAN ports and a USB 3.0 port. The router is designed to scale with larger households, with multiple units that are able to be linked using EasyMesh to create a unified Wi-Fi 7 network across multi-storey or expansive properties. Crucially, power users can connect multiple units via a wired 10 Gigabit Ethernet backhaul, establishing a complete 10G wired backbone between rooms without compromising wireless coverage.
Next-Gen Wi-Fi 7 Performance
On the wireless side, the BE7200-class router leverages next-generation Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) architecture. Featuring 4×4 MU-MIMO, OFDMA, and 4K QAM modulation, it provides significantly higher capacity and lower latency compared to Wi-Fi 6 standards, it can deliver speeds up to 1376 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and 5764 Mbps on 5 GHz.
The addition of Multi-Link Operation (MLO) allows for compatible devices to connect across both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands simultaneously. This dual-band connection reduces latency and buffers against congestion, making it ideal for 4K/8K streaming, cloud backups, competitive online gaming, and AR/VR applications.
