Twin Lakes' Canadian Music Week Photo Tour Diary (Part Two)

Following the first part of their tour diary earlier this week, as well as a special video they put together for us, Newcastle band Twin Lakes bring us the second and final part of their adventures in Toronto for Canadian Music Week earlier this month!

DAY FOUR OF CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK

Woke up with a slight hangover today but all was well after a pretty tasty roast chicken roll at this cool deli just down the street. Spent the day relaxing mostly. Took a stroll down Kensington Market again then spent the arvo playing board games at this cool little cafe called Roll Play Cafe. From here Sean went to meet up with a friend to watch the baseball and the rest of us went to watch a list of bands that I’d prepared during the day.

First up was to this cool little venue called Handle Bar to watch a band from Montreal called Fire/works who were definitely one of our highlights of the festival. After that we made our way to another cool venue called Cherry Cola’s Rock N’ Rolla Cabaret to watch a band called Hunting who were a tad boring but entertaining enough. Then back to Handle Bar to watch our good friends Tully on Tully who were quite amazing to say the least. After that we trotted over to a venue called Sneaky Dee’s to watch a band called Highs who were pretty impressive even though they sounded very similar to Local Natives but still had something different to call their own. After that it was home time but not before a quick stop over at a pizza joint.

We ended up getting home a little after 1am to find out the security code to our hostel had been changed without our knowledge so we were locked out. Luckily there was someone else going into the hostel at the same time so we got in ok. Sean was still out which was to be expected so we all went to sleep wondering how Sean was going to get in when he did get home. But as we have come to know, Sean will always find a way and that he did which is still a mystery to this day.

A strange turn of events happened at 4am when we were woken by someone who we thought was Sean but ended up being this massive bald guy in his boxers who we think was sleep walking or something and somehow found his way into our room and parked himself in Sean’s bed. It was definitely one hell of a fright when we realised it wasn’t Sean. It tool us ages to convince the guy that he was in the wrong room and that he should probably leave to find his own room. He finally left without any real damage done and then about 5 minutes later Sean walks in pissed as a parrot. I can only imagine what would of happened if the big bald guy was still in his bed, would of been very interesting indeed. Never the less it took me ages to get back to sleep after that bit of craziness.

DAY FIVE OF CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK

Aussie BBQ day!!! Feeling pretty good considering the amount of beers we drank the night before and the fact that we had a bald intruder scare the living crap out of us. Sean was not feeling so good though. He didn’t remember a thing of the night before which was just as well. Still don’t know how he ended up getting into the hostel with the new security code, just another unsolved mystery of the Sean.

So off to the Horseshoe Tavern for the Aussie BBQ. Our set was at 2pm and was another crazy on and off type experience. The whole thing was a blur, 25 minutes just flies by but was one of the funnest shows we’ve ever done.
I have to say it has definitely been one of my dreams to play at one of these events for so long so it was such a thrill to be included in one. And what an honour it was to share the stage with some incredible Australian talent too. So many great bands all under the same roof. Such a great day indeed which led onto an even bigger night.

This was to be our last night in Toronto as we were due to fly back home the next day so we definitely made the most of it that’s for sure. So much drinking!!! I think we ended up at You Am I’s show later in the night but I really can’t be sure, the whole night was a blur. But plenty of good times that’s a definite.

HOME SWEET HOME

After such a huge night I was thinking I would be feeling quite ill indeed but luckily I felt pretty good. Jake on the other hand was not so lucky, he was a wreck! I don’t think I could think of anything worse than feeling the way he felt for a 20 hour plus plane ride trip home. I did not envy him one bit when he was throwing up in his sick bag when we were coming into land. Ah good times!! But we all arrived safe and sound if only a little weary and tired but with plenty of good times and great memories under our belt. A trip that will be hard to forget. CMW… what a ride indeed!!!
