Track of the Week: Varley, “One Two Three” (2021)

For this week’s Track of the Week, we’re celebrating “One Two Three“, an atmospheric slice of indie-pop from trio Varley.

Based in Berlin, Varley consists of Dublin-born singer Claire-Ann and German bandmates Joschka Bender and Matthias Heising. With influences including Bon Iver, Fleetwood Mac, and Phoebe Bridgers, the Varley vibe is at once vulnerable and defiant.

“One Two Three” is our latest glimpse at forthcoming debut album Smalltalk & DMCs, and it’s done an incredible job of getting us very excited for what’s to come!

Of the new track, Varley say:

“We wrote ‘One Two Three’ about the unachievable beauty standard we are surrounded by in today’s society and how people’s lives online can seem so perfect and how it becomes harder not to compare yourself or your life to everything you see online. It talks about the feeling of being stuck in a big machine that’s trying to change us but also has the realization that if we apologize for being ourselves then we will be lost forever.”

Give it a listen below!

Varley’s Smalltalk & DMCs is scheduled for release this coming September.
