Track of the Week: Cedric Burnside “Step In” (2021)

Cedric Burnside

If you want to find out what the real Mississippi blues sounds like, take a listen to Cedric Burnside. He is the real deal, with a blue-blood pedigree behind him. The grandson of the great R.L. Burnside, Cedric is on the cusp of releasing a new album, I Be Trying, which is just the tonic after such a trying year.

Our Track of the Week is the lead single from this upcoming album, “Step In”. It’s a track that has Burnside saying a prayer to escape hardship and despair, using metaphors for what he sees is ailing the world, or as he says “like an addict fiending for crack…Lord step in.”

On the album, Cedric has collaborated with producer Boo Mitchell (“Uptown Funk” etc) and Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars). “Step In” has the hallmarks of the heritage sound which you would expect, but given a modern lift.

I Be Trying will be released on the 25th June 2021 on Single Lock Records. You can pre-save the album HERE
