Track of the Day: Turquoise Prince “Eric Banas” (2018)

After a standout guest spot on Spit Syndicate’s Orbit earlier this year, as well as string of excellent singles like “Concussed” and “Lighter”, Canberra based artist emcee/singer Turquoise Prince is closing out a big 2018 with a devastating right hook on “Eric Banas”.

The recently released single and video is best considered a statement of intent, with Prince (also known as LTC) going hard over Papertoy’s grizzly head-nodder, addressing his beef with Brisbane emcee Midas.Gold, throwing in some witty one-liners, and proving that he can rap just as well as he can sing.

As we move into 2019, there has been plenty of discussion about the “new wave” of Australian hip hop and R&B artists. And the scene is certainly in a healthy spot, especially with a new MTV Australia show dedicated to showcasing local talent, and artists like Turquoise Prince (and while we’re at it: Triple One, Midas.Gold, Kwame, Chillinit, Wombat, Junor, Z.Lewis, Jesswar, Sampa the Great, Anfa Rose, Carmouflage Rose, And Beyond, Manu Crooks, and Kaiit) putting on quality cuts like this. Give it a listen below and make sure to check out all those aforementioned artists, you won’t regret it.
