Track of the Day: The Oogars “Scream” (2019)

Earlier this month Gold Coast quartet The Oogars released their debut single “Scream”, on ode to embracing those moments that matter, and to stop wasting your time on things and people that just aren’t worth your time or attention. With a delightful blend of surf pop and doo wop “Scream”, is bright, fresh and unabashedly joyful.

Recorded in the hinterlands of Byron Bay with Inky StudiosJordan Power, the track offers something of a nod to the past, whilst remaining decidedly contemporary. According to guitarist and vocalist Tanisha Cook: “The verses relate to thinking about our attempts at love or life and our fails and just laughing it off. And the chorus plays on that, reminiscing on the past and saying. ‘It didn’t work but ah well we had fun!’ It’s a fun, light hearted song that most people can relate to! This song happened pretty naturally. Starting with some cheesy lyrics that we randomly came up with during one of our early day practice sessions. We pretty much figured it all out that night.”

It’s an undeniably strong opening salvo from the Gold Coast band, brimming with charm and confidence; and there’s an endearing swagger to it all. I can’t wait to hear more from the band, so hopefully we won’t need to wait for too long for single #2.

Despite this being the band’s first official release, they’ve been making a bit of a name for themselves through their energetic live shows, with the band clocking up some impressive support slots with the likes of Donny Benet and New York’s BOYTOY. The  band have had their setbacks though, they were due to tour with Lime Cordiale late last year too, but Cook broke her neck a week before the tour was due to kick off. But, having taken the time to rest and recuperate the band are back in action and ready to make 2019 a success.
