Track of the Day: LPX hits new peaks with “Delayed Gratification” (2020)

At the start of last year, we sat down with Lizzy Plapinger, co-founder of Neon Gold Records and lead singer of MS MR, as she made her first trip to Australia under her new solo project LPX.

In our chat, Lizzy talked about what her hopes were to be “the most wild, loud, eccentric version of myself”, and as her first single of 2020, “New Mood” showed us, this is not going to be any different as she moves towards the release of her third EP.

Today, the record’s second track “Delayed Gratification”, takes that ‘version’ of herself to another level, delivering her finest track to date, an anthem about being ‘impatiently patient’. It’s a song which has accidentally proven timely amidst an industry that has been put on hold thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The track, which was ‘a self produced new wave grunge bedroom pop demo brought to life by Mike Irish (PrettyBoyShav, Silver Sphere, Kirby)’, was originally to be released in conjunction with LPX’s now postponed tour dates supporting Maggie Rogers as well as Carly Rae Jepsen. Lizzy and fans alike are indeed looking ahead to some delayed gratification of their own.

Listen to the beautifully layered track we’re all going to relate to right here, right now:
