Track of the Day: Los Bitchos “The Link Is About To Die” (2019)

London-based group Los Bitchos last week dropped their latest single, “The Link Is About To Die”. Produced by Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos, the track is an intoxicating blend of instrumental cumbia, psychedelia and garage rock.

Although they reside in London the band have quite an international flavour, with members hailing from Perth, Montevideo, Stockholm and Croydon. Fronted by multi-instrumentalist Serra Petale on lead guitar, Los Bitchos are also made up of Carolina Faruolo (guitar), Augustina Ruiz (keytar), Josefine Jonsson (bass), and Nic Crawshaw (drums/percussion). In November they’ll be heading out on the road with The Black Lips, and have already shared the stage with the likes of Ty Segall, The Murlocs and Methyl Ethel amongst others.

Their last single “Pista (Great Start)” garnered plenty of attention, with radio and TV play in the US, Uruguay, and the UK. New single “The Link Is About To Die” looks to continue the band’s upward trajectory, with a bright, energetic and infectious sound that is hard to deny.

It might be grey and wintery in London where the band call home, but you wouldn’t know it from listening, it’s bright, energetic and perfect for those long summer nights with a bottle of tequila and good company. They bring to mind Khurangbin, but with a more danceable vibe. Check it out below.

“The Link Is About To Die” is available now. You can keep up with all things Los Bitchos via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Keep an eye out too for an accompanying video that’s set to drop later this week, with the band showcasing their margarita making skills.
