Track of the Day: JessB feat. Church Leon “Bump Bump” (2019)

Today’s killer track of the day comes from Auckland rapper JessB, featuring Church Leon, one half of NZ duo Church & AP. The first track from her upcoming solo project (a follow up to last year’s EP Bloom), “Bump Bump” pays homage to early 00’s hip-hop and rap, and the Missy Elliot vibes are strong with this one.

“The hook was written by Church Leon, but both of us grew up on late 90’s/early 00’s hip-hop, so that era, including Missy Elliot and Snoop Dogg’s music is nostalgic to both of us in that way,” JessB says.

“Missy Elliot is particularly pertinent for me as she was one of the first female rappers I really looked
up to and was influenced by in my own music.”

The last eighteen months have been huge for the upcoming rapper, smashing her way through the New Zealand festival circuit, and playing alongside acts such as Stormzy and Kaiit.

And now that she’s got Australia firmly in her sights, it’s time to jump on board. Check out “Bump Bump” below!
