Track of the Day: Hartley “Bittersweet” (2020)

Hartley

Not content with just releasing her debut eponymous EP back in January, Brisbane singer-songwriter Hartley is back with a brand new single. Co-produced alongside Ninajirachi, “Bittersweet” is a playful bop all about wanting those things you know aren’t good for you. That extra slab of chocolate, bottle of wine, that certain someone you have your eye on.

It’s been something of a meteoric rise for Hartley. Since late 2019 she’s released her debut EP and four singles. Now five. And she is well on her way to the big 2020 we predicted. Indeed, her last single “How It Feels” was added to new music playlists across seventeen countries. Which is pretty good for a new artist.

Talking about the new single, Hartley said “I wrote Bittersweet about wanting something you know isn’t good for you – ignoring the signs and the ‘bitterness’ to continue on with the sweet parts for just a little longer.”

It’s a bright and playful slice of alternative pop. One which should find itself on plenty of listener’s playlists around Australia and the world.

“Bittersweet” is out today. Hartley’s debut EP is available now. Keep up to date via Facebook and Instagram.
