Track of the Day: Gaspar Sanz “On My Mind” (2020)

Gaspar Sanz

Sydney indie-rockers Gaspar Sanz are back with, “On My Mind”, their second single of the year. Written back in 2019, the single’s message of utilising your own oppression as a form of power has become all the more poignant and timely in the increasing mess of uncertainty that is 2020.

Recorded in Sydney with producer Oscar Dawson, “On My Mind” is a real treat. Along with its empowering message, the single is oozing style and charm – not to mention those hooks. Upbeat and anthemic this is one of those songs that’s just begging for the volume to be turned right up. I’ve no doubt it’d be a belter live too.

According to lyricist and frontman James Bell “On My Mind” is ‘about choice’. Notably “the choice that you can rise up against the things in life that knock you down and use what holds you there as a power to motivate. A power to help others and yourself”. It’s a wonderful and empowering sentiment, and one that’s captured so well in the single’s lyrics and effervescent instrumentation.

“On My Mind” will feature on the band’s forthcoming EP Glass Rainbow due this Friday July 31st. You can pre-save the EP HERE. But, until then, you can give the latest single a spin below:
