Track of the Day: Camp 8 “Everything” (2019)

“Everything” is the debut release from Melbourne-based songwriter Reuben Apirana a.k.a. Camp  8.

Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, Apirana moved to Australia and the Sunshine Coast at a young age, before relocating to Melbourne about four years ago. Having grown up in a music family it’s perhaps unsurprising that Apirana has turned to a career in music, but it’s only been within the last year or so that he’s capitalised on that music background, and kick started his Camp 8 musical project.

And what a way to kick it all off! “Everything” is a truly beautiful and mesmerising debut. Produced by Hayden Calnin, the single is exquisitely balanced and almost understated in its delivery. Whilst, the focus is undoubtedly on that captivating vocal, no one element of the track overpowers another. Rather everything comes together to compliment the track’s tone and feel. Emotive and evocative, thanks in part to those padded piano notes, there is a lot of love about “Everything”. It might clock in at close to five minutes, but you’ll be hanging on every note.

With the promise of more music, including an EP, on the way, now is as good a time as any to get around Camp 8. I for one can’t wait to hear more.

“Everything” is available now. Make sure you head across to Facebook and Instagram to keep to date with all things Camp 8.
