Track of the Day: Alex the Astronaut “Happy Song” (2018)

Alex the Astronaut has released her new single “Happy Song” ahead of her forthcoming Space Tour this November. This track, equally optimistic and melancholic, was performed for the first time to a packed tent at this years Splendour in the Grass.

Aiming straight for the heart, “Happy Song” perfectly pairs gloominess with buoyancy, delivering a cheerful chorus that makes it hard to resist the urge to sing along. Premiering last night on Triple J, Alex’s latest single is another momentous point in what has been a productive year to say the least for the singer-songwriter, currently on tour in Europe for the second time this year.

Talking about “Happy Song”, Alex said:

“I wrote this song at the start of the year about the awkward middle part of a breakup when you don’t really know what you’re doing. I recorded it with Sam (Cromack) and Dan (Hanson) from Ball Park Music (they both sing on thedadadas) and it took us about nine months to get it right so it’s pretty much a song baby. I’m really proud of it and I’m so excited for people to hear it”.

Embarking on a national tour in November, Alex the Astronaut will be playing to delighted audiences in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Perth. Having already sold out a co-headline tour with Stella Donnelly, played numerous festivals around the world and had her song “Waste of Time” added to full rotation on Triple J in 2018, no doubt her Space Tour will be a huge success and the perfect end to an incredible year.

“Happy Song” is available now. You can catch Alex on tour around Australia this November (Dates below). Be sure to chuck her a like on Facebook, and follow her on Twitter and Instagram.
