Tour Diary: The Black Lullaby at Canadian Music Week 2014 in Toronto (Part Two)

Hi, we are The Black Lullaby, a 4-piece rock band from north coast NSW. This is a tour diary for the AU Review of our trip to Toronto where we showcased at Canadian Music Week 2014. We had an awesome time and met some great people and saw some amazing bands – check out our music HERE and enjoy part two of our tour diary here (or click here for part one!):

WEDNESDAY 8 MAY – DAY 4

Rehearsal day today and everyone is keen to play some music. Managed to find a great space close by, even had a 100w Orange Head to run Blue Betty through (Ange’s guitar). Productive session with the set-list for Friday night and Saturday sorted and everything is sounding great.

Ever since we arrived in Toronto, have been trying to find a good caeser cocktail. It’s like a bloody mary but made with clamato juice (a blend of tomato juice and clam broth!!!) We had some ok ones but hit the jackpot at the Rock Lobster, yes those are real lobster tails……

THURSDAY 9 MAY – DAY 5

The 3-day music conference kicked off today, we saw Nile Rodgers and Amanda Palmer speak and managed to catch some other really good panels. Also managed to network our brains out at the Sounds Australia meet the Australians event that afternoon at the Marriott. Was great to catch up with some of the other Aussie acts showcasing and also industry reps attending the conference.

FRIDAY 10 MAY – DAY 6

Finally, we are showcasing tonight at The Hideout – A Rock Bar that F#@$in Rocks according to their website. We are on at 9pm and before we play, Ange and Lucas have tickets to an international festival networking event organised by CMW. They compared it to speed dating, where they had to pitch the band to festival promoters and bookers from North America, South Africa and Europe.

First showcase was awesome, chuffed to be the bill with Australian rock royalty ‘You Am I’. Ahhh Tim can I lick your face???? No.

SATURDAY 11 MAY – DAY 7

Big night and an early start today, its been a huge week. The Sounds Australia Aussie BBQ at The Horseshoe Tavern kicks off at lunchtime and we are first up. There is an amazing line-up of Australian acts and we are really stoked to be a part of this showcase.

This is our last day together in Toronto – Ange, Gav and Deon fly early tomorrow morning to New York for a few days. Then Ange and Gav are heading to Seattle to visit Aberdeen where Kurt Cobain grew up, then on to Vegas where they are picking up a car and driving back to LA.

Big thanks to everyone who helped us get across to Toronto for this festival. It was an amazing experience playing the CMW BIGSOUND and Aussie BBQ showcases and we met some awesome people and made some great connections.
